Hallmark’s The Shunning: filming guitar scene

Danielle Panabaker, Sandra Van Natta & Bill Oberst Jr on set of The Hallmark Channel’s TV-movie The Shunning. Voice of director Michael Landon, Jr. is also heard. Compare to the finished scene in the film by clicking here.

Three prop guitars were prepared. The first two were pre-scored for safety and failed to deliver a satisfying smash (look for Oberst throwing down the guitar in this take when it fails to shatter.) “I asked Michael if I could take that last guitar with no pre-scoring and swing the sucker for real” said Oberst. “He smiled and said ‘Go for it!’ I swung and it splintered like a sonofabitch – just broke all apart. You can see Danielle picking up the pieces at the tail end of the final scene. “
