Bill Oberst Jr. Wallpapers: Behind-The-Scenes "Hook"

The last shot (above) of the gothic black & white horror short Something Wicked Dwells called for Bill Oberst Jr. to be half-crazed and intent on escaping a demon’s dungeon. It wasn’t pretend, says Bill.

“I was cold and sore from doing a stunt fall earlier that day. The shot was one continuous take hitting several pools of light precisely while doing the lines and ending at the hook. We had done a lot of takes trying to get it right. I was in shackles, covered with slimy muck from head to toe and quoting this dark poem that had really gotten into my head. I wasn’t sleeping well – was having nightmares – and the set was a little too realistic. The whole thing had gotten personal for me. So by the time we did that last shot I was feeling a little nutso and was ready to get the hell out of there just, like my character. Whatever was in my eyes in that shot, it was real.”

The resulting shot is the background image of this site and the last shot of the film, which is currently in post-production.
