Bill Oberst Jr. plays a man suffering seizures and shifting mental realities after awakening from a coma in director Ryan Powell’s feature film The Glass Prison.
Oberst got some real-life headaches during filming of a scene (above: cinematographer Ryan Campbell pulls focus protected by plastic) in which his character collapses and his wife, played by Brice Crawford, tries to revive him. Oberst did repeated takes of the fall to the tiled floor with no stunt pad under cold water (to avoid steam for camera.) The resulting hard-won shot lasts only a few seconds and is in the film’s trailer.
The Glass Prison shoot was rife with physical discomfort for cast and crew. Much of the film’s action takes place in a walled-in glass box in another dimension. The lighting required for that set made it so hot it could only be filmed in for short periods at a time.
